Vulcan Acid Gas Injection Project

The purpose of this offset project is to quantify emission reductions generated under the Alberta Offset System from the ConocoPhillips Vulcan Acid Gas Injection Project (herein "the Project"). The project itself was created with the objective of improving natural gas recovery in Vulcan gas plant region while reducing direct emissions to the atmosphere of both greenhouse gases and hydrogen sulphide. The opportunity for generating carbon offsets with this project arises from the direct greenhouse gas emission reductions resulting from the geological sequestration of acid gas, containing carbon dioxide, produced during natural gas processing operations, and from direct greenhouse gas emission reductions due to the avoided use of fossil fuels that would have been required in the operation of the tail gas incineration unit.
