Sundre Forest Product TFH Biomass Burner Project
3157-5491
The Thermally Heated Fluid Burner Project is an fuel substitution project at the Sundre Forest Product, dimensioned lumber manufacturing facility, located at Sundre, Alberta. The opportunity for generating carbon offsets with this project arises from direct GHG emission reductions as a result of a reduction in the consumption of natural gas used at the facility. Carbon dioxide equivalent(CO2e) is emitted from the mill as a result of burning natural gas to dry lumber and heat space. This project reduces the natural gas required by the mill. A new biomass burning system was designed and installed to burn wood waste generated by the facility. Under the Project condition, the thermal energy generated by the burning of the biomass heats a hot oil system. The hot oil is used for the drying of dimensioned lumber. These functions used to be provided by natural gas fired forced air systems.
