The project is an energy substitution project at Canfor's Grande Prairie Sawmill. Carbon offsets arise from reduction in consumption of natural gas used at the facility and reductions in electricity purchased from the Alberta grid. Thermal energy and electricity are now purchased from the Combined Heat and Power biomass burning plant adjacent to the mill.
